This was not a fun February. We started it off with all of us getting the stomach flu...soooo miserable! Especially since I'm breastfeeding and couldn't take anything for it. Then a week later everyone got colds. Poor Rosslyn's got worse and worse and then I started to notice her stomach contracting when she would breathe and her breathing didn't sound good.
I ended up taking her to the ER on Wednesday evening and they told me they would give her a breathing treatment and send us on our way. Well, she didn't respond to the breathing treatment so they gave her another. That didn't work so they gave her oral steroids...her O2 levels still didn't increase so they took some X-rays to make sure it wasn't pneumonia. Luckily it wasn't. But since nothing was working they had to admit her. That turned into a four night stay with our little RSV baby. Poor thing! We didn't get home until Sunday around 1:30pm.
They took out the crib and brought in a hospital bed so I could just "sleep" with her since people were coming in almost every hour and I was having to hold her down for suctioning or if she woke up for the breathing treatments. The only problem was I had to call a nurse every time I had to go to the bathroom. I would wait and wait until I couldn't wait any longer. I'm pretty sure they thought a horse was peeing in the bathroom. It was embarrassing.
To make matters worse on Friday I all of a sudden got this PIERCING pain in my ear...I mean PAIN. I just couldn't do anything but cry it hurt soooooo bad. I asked some of the nurses if they could look in my ear but they said no because they're pediatric. I was in the hospital for heavens sake and no one would look in my ear. They told me I'd have to go to adult med but since I waited until it was after 5 I'd have to go to the ER. Well, that wasn't how I wanted to spend an extra 50 bucks so I waited until the next morning...inner and outer ear infection. FUN! I feel so bad for kids that have ear infections now! I also ended up being allergic to the neomycin drops. They made my ear explode to twice its size and was super painful. I wouldn't be surprised if I had stretch marks on my ear!
Then once I started on my antibiotics Roz wouldn't nurse. I asked the doc if that was normal and she said it can make babies stomach's sensitive and it could change the taste of the milk. Well we couldn't leave unless she was had at least 4 wet diapers a day but she wouldn't take formula or pedialite. Lets just say I am sick of hospitals and dr's offices.
Here's to a better March!
